FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a general contractor and why do I need one?

When a project includes more than one or two trades, requires coordination and scheduling in the correct sequence to avoid rework and will take too much time from your day to day responsibilities.

  • Can HN Building Co. help with the design, logistics and permits, and construction?

Can HN Building Co. help with the design, logistics and permits, and construction? HN Building Co. can help with all of that and more. We have relationships with design teams, real estate agents and are registered with most of the municipalities in the surrounding areas. If not, no problem, we can be with a phone call.

  • Are you licensed and insured?

In the state of Texas, General Contractors are not required to be licensed. We are required to be insured and in some cases bonded. Some projects have additional requirements but nothing has stood in our way of being qualified. Our mechanical, electrical and plumbing trades are required to be insured and licensed by the state. We do not ever risk putting an unqualified trade on any of our job-sites and we always follow the local codes. In some cases the code is not as stringent and we would prefer to overkill than risk the safety, success or future operation of our clients project.

  • When are payments due for the project?

With your proposal you will receive a project schedule in the form of a Gantt chart with milestones noted. Attached to the proposal there will be a payment schedule that will detail which milestones will require a progress payment.

  • What permits do I need for my project?

If you are only making cosmetic changes, you will not require a permit. Once you begin to make changes to the structural integrity or any mechanical, electrical or plumbing changes, you will most likely need to permit the project. Each municipality has different requirements and sometimes projects that get near the property line, or street approaches will also require a permit. If you do not need a GC, be sure to investigate your cities website to confirm you do not require a permit.
